Shutter Island, a thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio, was the number one film in the U.S. this past weekend. The film, directed by Martin Scorsese, was based on the novel by mystery author Dennis Lehane. The film made just over $40 million at the box office. Last week's number one film, Valentine's Day, slipped to number two. Avatar came in third. It is closing in on the $700 million mark for its U.S. domestic box office total and nearing $2.5 billion worldwide. Avatar was followed by Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, The Wolfman and Dear John.
