Whimsical Kids Furniture Including Bookshelves, Dresses and Clocks

Posted on February 21, 2009

Whimsical children's furniture is furniture that appears to be designed wrong in a fun way. It might be a bookshelf that is curved or leans too much to the right or the left. It could also be a clock that runs backwards or a dresser that appears to be split down the center.

Posh Tots was a retailer that had a great collection of whimsical furniture. Some of the furniture looked like it was inspired by Dr. Seuss or Lewis Carroll. They had accordion dressers, carrot shaped dressers, a bridge bookcase and many other oddly shaped pieces of furniture. The prices ranged from $3,000 to $10,000. Posh Tots also carried a collection of fantasy themed beds that included castle beds, race card beds, pirate ship beds and more.

Posh Tots is no longer around but you can find other fun pieces at various furniture retailers. You can see some of the unique pieces in the "Mad Toddler" section of Posh Tots Facebook page.

Here are some articles about designers of this type of furniture and some interesting pieces we found at other online retailers.

There is also a video showing the creation of a funky bookshelf that looks like two leaning bookshelves stacked on top of each other.
