Video: Meredith, Al and Matt Wear Gloves to Handle New Olympic Medals
Meredith Vieira, Al Roker and Matt Lauer got an up close look at the silver, gold and bronze medals that will be awarded at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. They were required to wear gloves to pick the medals up. The medals are based on two pieces of art: one is of an orca whale (Olympic) and and one is of a raven (Paralympic) by Canadian artist Corrine Hunt. Canadian architect Omer Arbel created the wave design of the medals, each of which is unique.
Al, Meredith and Matt also get to preview the victory bouquets that will be handed to winners. The Olympic bouquets are monochromatic in green. They feature five green spider mums grown in British Columbia in the center, surrounded by layers of monkey grass, aspidistra leaves and hypericum berries imported from Ecuador. The bouquets are made by an organization which helps the disadvantaged. Take a look:
