Bob Schieffer Explains the Importance of the Super Bowl

Super Bowl 44 begins today with kickoff time 6:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. CBS's coverage of the game begins at 6:00 p.m. EST with the Kickoff Show. Even if you do not plan to watch the game you are probably aware of it. Bob Schieffer explains how the Super Bowl long ago become more than just a game and it now part of our culture. He says it is part of culture like "turkey at Thanksgiving" and "lights at Christmas." He also says the big game has become an essential part of our economy.

Bob Schieffer says the Super Bowl is "one of those breaks when we can put aside the things that really matter and for a few hours just gather with our friends and family and enjoy something that makes absolutely no difference in the course of human events. We need that every once in a while. Maybe lately more than ever. I feel lucky to be a part of it." Take a look:
