Georgia Peanut Plant Had History of Problems

The Georgia peanut processing plant at the center of the salmonella outbreak has been blamed for problems in the past. The plant has been blamed for "roaches, mold, a leaking roof and other sanitary problems." A New York Times story says salmonella has been found at the plant before this outbreak. The plant is owned by Peanut Corp. of America, which just expanded its recall yesterday.

The salmonella outbreak has been blamed for killing eight people. Over 500 people have become ill from salmonella and 100 of them are children. The Washington Post says the company "knowingly" sold tainted peanut products and the possibility of criminal charges has been raised.
