Officials Deny that Rome Colosseum is Falling Apart

Italy's Culture Ministry s investigating multiple reports that the Colosseum is crumbling. Bits of plaster and stone are falling off at what appears to be an increased pace, which has alarmed those who found the rocks. But the Ministry is playing down the rumors that the whole edifice is close to collapse, according to The New York Times. "Nothing has collapsed [at the Colosseum] since the 18th century," said the Ministry's official statement. No doubt they don't want to alarm the tourists. But it's a good thing that renovation is getting underway. Diego Della Valle, owner of the Tod's, is underwriting the renovation. The AP reports:
