Video: Halle Berry Discusses Her Traumatic Childhood, Helping Abused Women
Halle Berry opened up to CNN about her
past in which she grew up with a
violent, abusive father, who used
to beat her mother. Halle now
volunteers at
the Los Angeles Jenesse Center, a nonprofit organization
that gives support for women that
escape violent homes and relationships.
Halle is adamant that women who are being
abused must get out of the situation
immediately. She says go to a shelter, go to
the police station, go somewhere.
She is passionate about helping other women
rebuild their lives.
"I think I've spent my adult life dealing
with the sense of low self-esteem that
sort of implanted in me. Somehow I felt
not worthy," she told CNN. "Before
I'm 'Halle Berry,'
I'm little Halle....a little girl growing
in this environment that damaged me...I've
spent my adult life trying to really heal
from that."
