Pee Wee Herman is returning to television. HBO announced that it will tape the current Broadway Pee Wee show and air it at at a later time. An air date hasn't been announced. The New York Times points out that Pee Wee has been on HBO before:
Pee-wee historians – and you know who you are – may recall that HBO previously broadcast a "Pee-wee Herman Show" special in 1981, taped at the Roxy Theater in Los Angeles. That show, which Mr. Reubens and his colleagues at the Groundlings comedy theater began performing in 1980, would go on to form the basis of the "Pee-wee Herman Show" currently being presented at the Stephen Sondheim Theater on Broadway.
The Pee Wee show's Broadway run end on January 2, 2011, so if you'd like tickets, you'd better get a move on. Or, just wait for the HBO special.
