Majel Barrett-Roddenbery Has Died at the Age of 76
Majel Barrett Roddenberry has
died at the age of 76. She had been suffering from leukemia for the past six months.
We can't believe she's gone! Star Trek fans will know her as Nurse Chapel from the orignal Star Trek series. Christine Chapel was a true professional, but was hopelessly in love with the unemotional Vulcan, Mr. Spock. Majel was married to Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek.
She also played Lawaxanna Troi, the fiery, Betazed mother of counselor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis). In addition to acting (she appeared in
Bonanza and Leave it to Beaver), Majel was always the voice of the ship's computer in every series. She just finished shooting her voiceover work for J.J. Abrams' new Star Trek movie.
She died with her son Rod by her bedside. Our condolences to her family. She will be missed.
