Swiss Bank UBS AG Issues Massive Dress Code Manual For Bankers
Swiss bank UBS AG has issued employees with a 43 page
dress code. The manual has separate orders for men and for women.
Men are told to wear fresh underwear (always a good idea),
not to dye their hair when they get older (because it will look harsh)
and not to wear their ties knotted in an unflattering knot.
Women must color their roots, wear light makeup (which "enhances
personality") and avoid short skirts. Everyone is told to
avoid garlic and onions because of the potential for bad breath,
and to lay off the heavy perfume. It struck us as funny that the women were ordered to dye their roots, but the men were told not to cover their grey hair because apparently they have no confidence in the male employees' ability to find a competent hair colorist who won't make them look ridiculous.
There are also lots of handy
clothing tips, like how to tie an appropriate tie knot and
how to store your clothing and shoes so they will last longer. The Wall Street Journal reports:
