Upstarts like Rue La La, Haute Look and One Kings Lane have been selling discounted items from luxury fashion labels online. CBS says Gilt - which promises premier fashion and luxury brands at up to 70% off retail - has seen its membership soar to over 2 million in just two years. Retailers like Saks and Neiman Marcus are also testing out short duration sales events. Bianca Solorzano says some people still prefer offline sample sales where they can handle the merchandise.
