Fashion designer Vera Wang opened a new ready-to-wear boutique in New York City's SoHo district last week. Vera Wang's new store will carry both Wang's expensive designer pieces and items from her less-expensive Lavender label. The new boutique is located next to stores from other designers including Marc Jacobs and Marni.
The WSJ's Heard on the Runway Blog has an article on the store. They quote Very Wang as saying everyone in the fashion industry is nervous about the economy but that you have to believe in your business strategy.
"Of course we're all nervous," acknowledged Ms. Wang, whose new 2,500-square foot store is the first that she's opened since 1989. "But this has been in the plans for so long and you can't really dictate what happens in the world. You can only go on what you believe in as a business strategy."
Vogue.co.uk says Vera Wang's favorite part of her new store is the ceiling. She also loves the kooky balance of her new store.
"I love the ceiling, the crazy proportion that goes from super high to super low," said Wang when asked to name her favorite element of the store, which is her first new outpost in 19 years (her two Madison Avenue boutiques cater exclusively to the bridal market). "I think that's kind of the dynamic of what I try to do with clothing - I mix feminine with masculine, street with couture. It's that kooky kind of balance that I love."
The store has a lot of unique elements and features. WWD'sarticle describes "sliding partitions, shell-like hang bars, translucent shelving, scrims, neoprene-covered furniture and stackable mini gym mats."
