USA Todayreports that Burger King is testing home delivery at four restaurants in the Washington D.C. area. The type of food served at Burger King does not seem like it would travel well, but the burger chain says it has developed a "proprietary thermal packaging technology" to keep food hot on its way to customers.
USA Today says BK is charging a $2 delivery fee and there is a minimum order of $8 to $10. Customers must live within a 10 mile range of a Burger King restaurant. Burger King will try to deliver food to customers within 30 minutes.
Burger King will likely get some customers that want delivery, but it doesn't sound like it will be very profitable for Burger King, especially with gas prices rising. Burgers and fries from fast food restaurants tend to cost less than pizza and Chinese food.
