Grandfather Knocked Unconscious, Bloodied by Arizona Police in Another Wal-Mart Black Friday Fiasco
Police in a Wal-Mart in Buckeye, Arizona, threw a grandfather to the ground, knocked him out and cuffed him in one of the worst incidents this Black Friday. Bystanders said the grandfather saw his young grandchild knocked over by the crowd. The child had a bloody lip. The grandfather, Jerald Allen Newman, was holding a video game box. When the boy fell, he stuffed the box in his belt to free his hands to help the child. Police then decided he was a shoplifter and let him have it.
In this video, the crowd is yelling at the police for the brutality: Newman
is on the floor, covered in blood. One bystander could not believe a suspected shoplifter (who had not left the store) was being beaten up by police. The unconscious Newman was taken to a local hospital. He received four staples in his head. He was then arrested on charges of shoplifting and resisting arrest.
The Buckeye police told ABC News that in the four minutes before the video starts lots of people were rushing forward to get this particular item. They claim they saw him put the item in his pants and walk towards the door. At that point they did a leg sweep and knocked him to the ground. That story contradicts the story of people in the crowd who talked to reporters. Even if he was a shoplifter, the violence was unnecessary and unjustified. Take a look:
