Nintendo Wii Sold Over 500,000 Units in October

Nintendo was able to sell more Wii units after lowering the price to $199.99 in September. The NPD Group says Nintendo sold over 500,000 Wiis in October. Sales of Sony's PlayStatoin 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 both fell compared to September. Sales really should have risen in October for these units given the holidays are getting closer.

Here are the gaming console sales for October according to data from the NPD Group. Kotaku says NPD's data ran from 10/4 to 10/31.
  • Wii - 506,900
  • Nintendo DS - 457,600
  • PlayStation 3 - 320,600
  • Xbox 360 - 249,700
  • PSP - 174,600
  • PlayStation 2 - 117,800
Apple's iPod Touch and iPhone are not included in the sales figures for gaming devices even though many now consider them a threat to the Nintendo DS.

You can buy the Wii here on Amazon.com.
