Rocketboom's Institute for Internet Studies does a great job of explaining Auto-Tune in this video clip with the help of Professor "Weird Al" Yankovic. Auto-Tune was released by Antares in 1997 as a pitch perfection audio plug-in for music software. It first became popular as a major tool in commercial making music when it was used to make Cher's hit song, Believe. In 2005, T-Pain started using Auto-Tune for nearly all of his vocals. Today, Auto-Tune is both ridiculed and cherished. There are those who make fun of Auto-Tune whenever it is used but at the same time T-Pain's records sell really well. Take a look:
