Ikee Worm Hits iPhones in Australia, Displays Rick Astley Image
Sophos.com reports that a worm named ikee is spreading on iPhones in Australia. Sophos says the virus is spreading on iPhones that have been jailbroken but only if their owners "did not change the default password after installing SSH.:
On infected iPhones the worm changes the iPhone's wallpaper to an image of singer Rick Astley. The wallpaper contains the phrase, "ikee is never going to give you up." The worm spreads to other iPhones via wireless networks.
The worm was created by an Australian student who claims he was just trying to raise awarenesss. He told Australia's ABC news, ""This virus pretty much exploits people's laziness to change their password,. Somebody with more malicious intent could have done anything -- read your SMSs, go through your emails, view your contacts, photos -- anything."
So far the worm has not been reported outside of Australia.
