Dr. Sanjay Gupta Discusses Research Which Shows Even Moderate Alcohol Consumption Raises Risk of Breast Cancer
CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta discusses
a new study that says
even moderate drinking by women
increases their risk of getting
breast cancer.
Dr. Gupta says alcohol intake increases
circulating estrogen, which could be
one reason for the results. What was surprising about the study
is the small amount of alcohol
that created the risk increase.
Drinking as little as 3 alcoholic
drinks a week can increase your risk
of breast cancer. Other studies say
moderate alcohol could decrease
your risk of heart disease, so there is a
risk benefit analysis to be made here.
