Reuters reports that Dell is planning a consumer tablet launch for late 2012. Dell did try 5-inch and 7-inch Streak tablets. They also have a 10.1-inch Inspiron Duo Tablet PC. PC Worlddeclared the Streak device dead in December, 2011. The Dell Streak 7 is listed as "unavailable" on Dell's website.
Dell has tried tablets, but it has not yet tried to aggressively challenge Apple's popular iPad tablet. This is apparently going to change by the end of the year. Tablets are not going away and they are a growing threat to PCs and laptops, especially for users who just want a device to do things like surf the Web and check email.
Dell chief commercial officer Steve Felice told Reuters in an interview at CES that they have been taking their time and they are planning a serious consumer tablet launch by the end of the year. Felice would not say if it will be an Android tablet or Windows 8 tablet.
