Kohl's Joins Target and Macy's in Midnight Black Friday Opening
Kohl's has announced it will also be opening its stores at midnight for Black Friday. Kohl's will be open for 24 hours on Friday, Nov. 25 - from 12 a.m. to midnight. The midnight opening is the earliest Black Friday opening in Kohl's history.
Kohl's joins Target and Macy's who have already announced midnight openings - see here and here. For each of these retailers, midnight is also the earliest ever opening time for Black Friday.
Walmart has not made an announcement, but it is expected to open at midnight. Marketwatch reports that J.C. Penney will open at 4 a.m. Sears and Toys R Us have not yet announced official plans, but Toys R Us opened at 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving last year.
In recent years stores have been opening earlier and earlier. This year the trend is clearly to have shoppers in very late at night instead of very early in the morning. It does change things. It means people who want to get the best doorbusters will have to queue up outside major shopping centers not long after they finish eating Thanksgiving dinner. There is always online shopping, but the best deals sometimes sell out quickly online as well. Black Friday deal seekers may have to make some tough decisions this year about where and when they want to shop.
