Bald Miss Delaware to Compete for Miss America Crown in Las Vegas
Suffering from a rare condition, alopecia areata, Kayla Martell has been bald since she was around 10 years old. But that hasn't stopped Kayla from winning the Miss Delaware pageant. Now she will compete in the Miss America pageant in Las Vegas. Kayla doesn't wear a wig during her everyday life, but she has worn wigs in pageants because she says the sight of a bald woman is so shocking to people. She told ABC News that when she meets people they assume she is a cancer patient. She said the other pageant contestants have been very supportive. She says they all wear hair extensions -- her wig is just a bit thicker than theirs, she jokes.
