Dealnews Dispels Black Friday Myths

Dealnews has posted a good collection of Black Friday myths and the facts behind them. The deal site points out that many Black Friday sales begin before Black Friday and that some items even sell out before the official Black Friday date (November 25 this year) arrives. This is because more and more retailers are offering Black Friday deals online and they start offering them earlier and earlier each year.

Another myth is that Black Friday prices are the lowest of the year. Black Friday prices are not always the lowest. Sometimes retailers drop prices lower near the end of the shopping season. Retailers may do this if they end up with too much inventory or if a manufacturer wants to move more of a certain product before the end of the year. A product to watch this year is tablets. There are lots of tablet manufacturers that may get caught with too much tablet inventory and have to lower prices in December to sell them.

Dealnews also says the Black Friday ad circulars do not always contain all the deals available - sometimes they leak extra offers online. Dealnews also says sometimes retailers include deals that don't actually exist - hopefully, this happens because of a mistake and not because retailers are trying to be misleading.

Dealnews also pummels the Apple Store's annual Black Friday deals. Dealnews advises people not to shop the Apple sale. It is true that Apple does not discount as much as other retailers that sell its products, including Amazon, MacConnection and MacMall.

Dealnews also says there is a myth that "Doorbusters are free." We hope no one actually believes that. The list also contains some good advice, such as check the retailer's return policy because sometime retailers alter them during the holidays.
