Playstation Move and Microsoft Kinect Might be Tough to Find During Holidays

Kinect and Move

It isn't even November and consumers already have two new gaming technologies that could be very difficult to find in time for Christmas. The two devices are the new Sony Move controller for the Playstation and Microsoft's Kinect, which allows players to become the controller.

Reuters reports that Sony has already sold 1 million Move controllers. Sony CEO Jack Tretton said they don't expect to have enough Move controllers on hand until February.
Jack Tretton, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, said demand is easily outstripping supply, and said the company does not expect to have enough supply on hand until February.

"We had to go back and increase production twice, we're absolutely maxed out right now," Tretton said.
The Telegraph reports that Microsoft Kinect supplies are already running low and it hasn't even gone on sale yet. Kinect arrives in stores on November 10.
A note on the Play.com website states that supplies "are extremely limited" and are being allocated to retailers by Microsoft.

"Therefore, we cannot guarantee to ship your order for launch," warns Play.com. "Orders of Kinect [including the bundled game Kinect Adventures] are strictly limited to one per customer."
Some of this could be pre-sales hype as the Inquirer suspects. If there does end up being an actual shortage of Move or Kinect devices, then it will be third-party sellers like eBay that benefit, as usual.
