SNL Unaired Skit: Media and Tech CEOs Discuss What Steve Jobs Taught Them
In this un-aired skit from Saturday Night Live tech and media moguls
Mark Zuckerberg (Andy Samberg), Ariana Huffington (Nasim Pedrad),
Reed Hastings of Netflix (Jason
Sudeikis) and Rupert Murdoch (Fred Armisen) were guests of Charlie Rose
(Bill Hader) to discuss the passing of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. Each CEO discusses a lesson that Jobs had taught him, and then explains how he applied that lesson to his own company. Each of the CEO's analyses is just hilarious -- and spot on.
Zuckerberg said, "Mr. Jobs taught me that you can bring beauty to the world of
technology. He wanted his products to be works of art that were both
efficient and elegant ....Facebook.com started off as an
efficient, user-friendly website, but
now it's just a mess. It's covered in
ads and invites from local bands,
like the bulletin board at an annoying
coffee shop... Steve Jobs once said
people don't know what they like until
you show it to them. At Facebook,
we show people things, and they don't
like them."
Arianna said Jobs was always
hands on. But she herself has
only been to the office five
or ten times.
Hastings says it's much easier
not to be like Steve Jobs,
who set an annoyingly high
standard of integrity, rejecting
many iterations of the iPhone
until they got it right. He revealed,
"We suck right now....We don't reject
any ideas at Netflix."
Murdoch said Fox and Apple are nothing
alike: "Jobs used new media to make the
world a better place. We use old media
to make it a much worse one."
It's a very incisive and funny piece...we think Steve would have liked it. Take a look:
