Motorola has launched a family edition of its Xoom tablet. The 10.1-inch tablet will cost $379, which is over $100 less than the regular Xoom. It is also $100 less than the entry level iPad. However, it is still much higher than the $99 firesale for the HP TouchPad. Amazon's Kindle Fire tablet costs $199, but it lacks cameras and is smaller (7-inches) than the Xoom.
Features of the new Xoom include Dual-core processor, 1 GB RAM and Android 3.1 (Honeycomb). It also has front and rear cameras and comes with $40 worth of free apps. The Wall Street Journalsays the only significant difference between the family Xoom and the regular Xoom is that it has less memory. The family edition has 16GB and the regular Xoom has 32GB.
