Christie's to Auction World's Most Expensive Barbie to Raise Money for Breast Cancer Research
The world's most expensive Barbie (estimate: $300-000 to $500,000) will be auctioned by Christie's New York on October 20 in a bid to raise funds for breast cancer research. The Barbie, designed by Stefano Canturi, wears a black strapless party dress, pink peep-toe stilettos, and a stunning necklace featuring a one-carat Fancy Vivid diamond. The unique Barbie will be auctioned without reserve and all profits from the sale will benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Barbie wears a Canturi collar necklace, exemplifying Stefano Canturi's 'Cubism' style of arranging carre- and baguette-cut diamonds in his signature geometric pattern. Three carats of white diamonds comprise the necklace, which is centered on a one-carat emerald cut Fancy Vivid purplish-pink diamond, a registered tendered stone from the Australian Argyle mine.
Canturi was invited to create the special Barbie after a successful collaboration with Mattel for Barbie doll's 50th Anniversary celebration last year. The Australian designer spent four weeks designing the doll's frame, hair style, makeup, dress, shoes, nail polish, and jewels. Here is a video about how the special Barbie was made. Take a look:
