Disgusted by all the steroid scandals, baseball Hall of Fame voters
rejected the nominations of Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens today. Not one player received the 75% of the votes to make the cut. This is the first time since 1996 and the eighth time in history that no one had enough votes, according to
The New York Times.
With the Lance Armstrong debacle still in the news, voters' minds seem to have clear memories of the baseball steroids scandals. If not for the scandal, Bonds' stats are stellar. He won seven MVP awards and set the career and single season records for home runs. Clemens's record is also impressive. He has 4,000 strikeouts and seven Cy Young awards.
Other players who didn't get the votes include Sammy Sosa, Mike Piazza and the Jeff Bagwell. Bagwell and Piazza still fared better than Clemens and
Bonds, though. Former Houston Astro Craig Biggio got 388 votes: just 39 short of the number needed. He was named on
68.2% of all the ballots.
