Barnes & Noble has announced it is lowering the price of its Nook Simple Touch to $79 for the holidays, starting December 9. This is a $20 or 20% reduction from its current $99 price tag. By comparison, Amazon's lowest priced Kindle
reader costs $69 with special offers or $89 without. Barnes & Noble notes in its release that the Nook does not have "distracting ads."
This is not the lowest The Nook has been. The Nook dropped
to $59 on Black Friday. However, this appears to be a permanent price change for the Nook.
Jamie Iannone, president of digital products at Nook Media LLC, said in a statement, "Just in time for the holidays, this new low pricing makes the critically acclaimed Nook Simple Touch a terrific, affordable gift for anyone on the gift list. Since its launch Nook Simple Touch has been universally praised by the media, and at just $79, it is not only the highest-rated Reader in the under-$100 category, but also the best value."
