It's all about Alfred Hitchcock these days. HBO has a
film called
The Girl telling how Hitchcock terrorized Tippi Hedren during the making of
The Birds, and ruined her career when she refused his sleazy advances. Now we have a theatrical feature starring Anthony Hopkins as Hitchcock and Helen Mirren as his long-suffering wife. This film tells the true story of the incredibly difficult production of the horror classic
Psycho which starred Janet Leigh and Anthony Perkins.
The studio didn't want to finance the film and they certainly didn't want him killing off his leading lady Janet Leigh (Scarlett Johansson) in the first half hour. The film also reveals Hitchcock's obsesession with the serial killer that was the inspiration for Norman Bates. It looks fascinating. Take a look:
