Amazon.com has raised the minimum order size for free shipping (called Free Super Saver Shipping) to $35. Previously, you could get free shipping on orders of $25 or more. The change comes just ahead of the busy holiday shopping season. CNN/Money reports
that Amazon had warned its shipping costs were going to increase earlier this year. Amazon said in a statement
that this is the first time in over a decade that it has altered the minimum order for free shipping in the US. By comparison, Best Buy offers free shipping with orders of $25 or more, while Target, Walmart and Overstock currently have minimums of $50 to get free shipping.
Free shipping its still available for Amazon Prime members. The Prime service costs $79 a year and also includes free streaming of thousands of movies and TV shows, as well as access to the Kindle Owners' Lending Library. Amazon is offering a 30-day free trial of its Prime service here
