Adele's
21 album continues to dominate the charts.
Billboard reports that Adele's
21 sold 4.41 million copies in 2012.
21 was also the number one album in 2011 when it sold 5.82 million copies.
Adele was followed by Taylor Swift's
Red album, which sold 3.11 million copies. No other albums came close to the big sales generated by
21 and
Red. One Direction's
Up All Night sold 1.62 million copies and finished in third.
The number one bestselling digital song this year was Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know," which sold 6.80 million copies. It was followed very closely by Carly Rae's Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe," which had 6.47 million paid downloads.
