The Wall Street Journal chats with Lee Miller, widely considered one of the best cowboy boot makers in the world. Miller's boot start at around $1,000 and go up to $8,500 a pair. He works out of his shop in Austin, Texas, called
Texas Traditions which makes all kinds of boots -- from
simple to ornate.
Customers' feet are measured and
the boots and made to fit perfectly.
Miller learned his craft from the
legendary bootmaker Charlie Dunn.
Miller says the craft has been
passed down through the generations and that the customer's comfort is his top
priority. Fitting the foot correctly
is the most difficult part of making
cowboy boots that will last a lifetime. Miller has made boots for Sting, Arnold Palmer, Lyle Lovett and many other celebrities. He is booked so far in advance it can take three years to get a pair if you are a new customer (old customers wait just over a year for a new pair). Take a look:
