that 40 states now allow retailers to charge a credit card surcharge of up to 4%. The states not allowing the surcharges include: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Oklahoma and Texas.
Some retailers, including Walmart, have announced that they will not pass along a surcharge to customers. Walmart told ABC News
, "We are not interested in surcharging customers in order to allow credit card companies to continue charging unfair fees."
