2014 American International Toy Fair Opens in New York City
The 111th American International Toy Fair opened today in New York City. Hundreds of thousands of toys, games and more are on display during the convention which runs from February 16-19. 30,000 toy professionals from 100 countries are expected to attend Toy Fair 2014. Over 1,150 toy companies will be displaying new products.
The 2014 Toy Fair opened this morning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring Alicia Keys. In addition to being a Grammy-award winning artist, Alicia is also the co-creator of the interactive children's app, The Journals of Mama Mae & LeeLee.
The Toy Industry Association (TIA), which runs the annual toy convention, says some of the trends at this year's Toy Fair include larger than life toys, high-tech remote control vehicles, "frightfully fun" playthings and games that teach STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts/Design, and Math) concepts.
Carter Keithley, President of TIA, says in a statement, "New York Toy Fair is the only show in the world that provides the international toy industry with direct access to the tremendous creativity and talent of North American toymakers. The diverse Toy Fair marketplace offers something for everyone – including niche buyers, mass retailers, licensing executives, and many more – all of who consider the show to be a 'must-attend' stop on the global buying circuit."
