Man Bag Popularity Soaring in Europe

Men carry purses too. Well not purses actually, but man bags. In Europe the man bags are already taking off. According to the New Zealand Herald, the "typical buyer is a comfortably off, 25-34-year-old, pre-family male, according to consumer analyst Mintel, which believes there is significant potential for growth in the market." Expect the trend to eventually hit the United States as well, where some men might replace their wallet and backpack with a fashionable man bag.

Tiny Doggies and Fancy Carriers

Paris Hilton and her Tinkerbell, Reese Witherspoon with her little Bruiser in Legally Blonde, Jessica Simpson and her new Malty-Poo and Britney Spears and her Maltese: these celebs and their tiny little puppy dogs have inspired an absolute fashion frenzy for hip pet-lovers. And along with the frenzy for tiny dogs, such as Chihuahas, Maltese and Yorkies, comes a frenzy for designer dog carriers. Jessica totes her doggy in a Louis Vuitton le sac chien (available at Louis Vuitton boutiques and Saks 5th Avenue). Other hot dog carriers are Juicy Couture's new carrier, which is pink and looks like a purse (available at NeimanMarcus.com), Donald J. Pliner's new pet carrier line, Kate Spade's new pet carriers and Petote's carriers, which come with detachable leather shoulder straps that can be used as a leash (available at petote.com).

Hurricanes Up Demand for Plywood, Generators

Consumers in the path of the recent onslaught of hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne have been purchasing lots of plywood to secure their windows from the dangerous storms. This has been good news for Home Depot and Lowe's, two rivals in the massive home improvement market. The store chains also benefit in the aftermath as consumers turn to them for chainsaws, generators, hardware and tools. Generators have been so popular this season that they have become hard to find in spots.

Tacky Trend: Thongs and Boy Shorts

Jenice Armstrong of Philly.com reports that the death of the thong (as reported recently by Alex Kuczynski of the New York Times) has been greatly exaggerated. Local stores in Manayunk, near Philadelphia, told the reporter that they were still ordering and selling thongs. Touchables: The Bra Store in Manayunk told Armstrong that they sell more thongs each year. Boy shorts are growing in popularity but sales do not match those of thongs.

Hurricane Season Drives Weather Radio Sales

The severe hurricane season is driving demand for NOAA weather radios. Hours in the dark with no power and frightening winds and noises outside can make the information provided by weather radios comforting. WALB News in Georgia says that "NOAA weather radios cost on average between 40 and 90 dollars, if you can find one. Most stores in Albany are sold out, as Hurricane Ivan approaches." The radios are likely sold out in other parts of the South as well.

Ugg Boots are hotter than ever this season: Neiman-Marcus is already selling out of the new Lilac and Ruby colored women's Classic Short boots. Laughing Cow Cheese Popularity Soars

Laughing Cow must be thanking the South Beach Diet that mentions their cheese product. Sales of the popular cheese wedges are up 250% this year alone thanks to mentions in popular diets like the South Beach Diet. The cheese used in Laughing Cow products is a spreadable processed cheese called La vache qui rit. Expatica reported that the company has had to increase production of the cheese in France because the U.S. factory in Kansas could not keep up with the growing demand.

Spa Dentistry

While trips to the dentists are not fun and even feared by some people a new trend could change all that. The trend, called spa dentistry, involves adding spa treatments to your regular dentist visit. For example, you could have aromotherapy, a paraffin wax treatment and a neck massage all while getting your teeth cleaned. This sounds like a relaxing and time-saving idea that could really catch on. Having relaxed patients should also make it easier for the dentists to do their work.

Hip Hop Stars Set Fashion Trends

Hip Hop is stealing the branding of sports footwear from the athletic superstars. Hip hop stars like Jay-Z (Keds), Snoop Dogg (Pony), and Missy Elliott (Adidas) have recently been part of shoe launches from major shoe brands. Hip Hop artists are also used to sell apparel like track suits and lingerie. Of course there is also the platinum and gold "bling bling" jewelry, gold caps for teeth and shoe spinners (little chrome discs that hang from shoes). There is no peak yet is this new "fashion" trend and hip hop brand power should continue to grow.

Must-Have Items for Expectant Parents

These days expectant parents are bombarded with thousands of possible products for their new baby. It can be easy to overspend especially when it comes to preparing for a new family member that you want to love and care for. However, the costs can quickly add up. The Arizona Republic reports that the "average first-year bill for supplies ranging from diapers to furniture is $6,200." The Arizona Republic article offers some good suggestions to help you keep your budget in control. The article suggests focusing on purchasing the essentials like car seats, nursery furniture and diaper bags first. Parents can hold off on buying items they might receive as gifts (baby clothes and toys) and items that won't be needed until the babies are a little older, like highchairs.

Hot Chile Trend

Chiles have been a hot trend over the past decade and new people become chile lovers every day thanks to the taste, which can range from sweet to very hot, and the health benefits. Salsa, which containes chiles, even passed ketchup in sales back in 1992. The Desert News has an interesting article about upcoming Chile events in the Salt Lake City area as well as some tips about chiles and some interesting recipes like Kathouse Chile Verde. Novices often think of chiles as only being only very hot, but there are many varieties as Jack Gilmore, executive chef of Z'Tejas restaurant, told the Deseret News. "Chiles are most thought of as a hot and spicy ingredient, but they can be used in many ways to sweeten or accentuate other flavors. They are so versatile, you can use them in any cuisine."
